Thanks to Jim and Marj Friestad for organizing an outstanding trip!
2013 Trip: Salt Lake City is home to the Family History Library, and each year, SBCGS sponsors a trip to this library which houses the largest collection of genealogical records in the world. The collection includes over 2.4 million rolls of microfilmed genealogical records; 727,000 microfiche; 356,000 books, serials, and other formats; over 4,500 periodicals and 3,725 electronic resources. Records available are from the United States, Canada, the British Isles, Europe, Latin America, Asia, and Africa. Records have been filmed in over 110 countries, territories, and possessions. In addition, there are hundreds of computers to use with free access to subscription sites, and printers, copiers, and scanners on all five floors of the library.
The 2012 Salt Lake City research trip included SBCGS members Bob Bason, Rosa Avolio, Jim Friestad, Marj Friestad, Kathie Morgan, Sue Gill, Don Gill, and Edie Wells
What do participants do all day long? Research, of course, but also work together to solve genealogical problems, take classes offered by the library, set up appointments with staff professionals, and share major finds. Then, there is ample time for sight seeing in the city, trying various restaurants around town, shopping, cemetery visits, and fun gatherings in the Friestad's room after the library closes.
